My daughter was 8 last year when we enrolled her in the HSS American Girl camp. She absolutely LOVED it, and couldn't stop talking about the crafts they did and her artwork and the cool things they did outside and inside! She really learned a lot about different cultures, as every project they do ties back to the era of the American Girl doll they are highlighting (Civil War days, Wild West, 70s, etc.).
This is not a "froo-froo" type camp where the girls do the dolls' hair and makeup and dress them up and play "dolls". (My daughter is quite frankly not that into her American Girl dolls (despite the cost of them, ugh), so she didn't even take them to camp most the time.)This camp is fun and educational and best of all EXTREMELY well organized-- teacher/child ratio is crazy good! Two thumbs up-- your daughter will love it and will come back with a real understanding of the eras they cover. We're already signed up for this year!
