When we go to Orlando, let’s face it. The main reason we often pack up and head to Florida is to take a Disney Dream Vacation, head to Universal Orlando (hello, Harry Potter), or visit many of the other attractions the Orlando area has to offer.
So why should you add Medieval Times Dinner Theater to your destination list?
There are quite a few reasons, but on our most recent trip to Orlando, we decided to experience all the food, fun, and pageantry that a dinner theater like Medieval times has to offer.
Reason #1: You have been hitting up the parks day in and day out and you are exhausted so the thought of cooking another dinner at your rental house is off the table, even if it does have a fully stocked kitchen.
Trust me, I get it. I was that person recently and I know exactly what it feels like. After three straight days of sun up to sun down Disney fun, this mama was tired! It took me a whole day of doing almost nothing just to recuperate!
So when planning your vacation, I’d build in some time to take the kids out to eat at a dinner theater. It is a great way for you to all enjoy a nice meal together while having some fun. You get to sit back, relax, and enjoy the food and the show while someone else does all the cooking!
Reason #2: The kids love it!
I mean, if you are going to go to a dinner theater, you want to make sure it will be enjoyable for everyone. I can safely say that my kids really love eating at Medieval times.
The kids love watching the show play out (p.s. there’s a Queen now instead of a King!), they love eating with their hands, and they like cheering on their favorite knight.
Along with eating your food with no utensils, reminiscent of actual Medieval Times, you will get to experience an exciting live-action show where knights battle with real weaponry and ride horses into battle, all in an epic quest to become the Queen’s champion!
Reason #3: Everyone loves the food and it’s fun to eat with no utensils.
Even my pickiest of eaters loved everything we were served (except the soup which she refused to try). We were all saying how much we really enjoyed the meal. Everything was seasoned well, cooked to perfection, and the kids ate until they were full!
Medieval Times’ noble guests feast on garlic bread, tomato bisque soup, roasted chicken, sweet buttered corn, herb-basted potatoes, the pastry of the Castle (we actually had ice cream for dessert this time around), coffee and two rounds of select beverages. A vegetarian selection is also available according to the website.
And yes, you really do eat with your hands! It is a fun experience to eat without any utensils, and plenty of wet wipes are provided to clean your fingers and faces.
Reason #4: Fun!
When you first arrive at Medieval Times in Orlando, you enter a huge castle-like building. There is even a moat!
As soon as you head inside, you are greeted with everyone already in character. After getting assigned your color, which will correspond to the knight you are cheering for, you head into a large atrium where you can purchase items, take some pictures with replica pieces, get a drink from the bar, or just hang out.
When it is time for the show to start, it actually starts out in this atrium area. An announcement is made, trumpets sound, and you are called to enter the arena by your team’s color.
There isn’t a ton for little kids to do out in this waiting area. They can look at things and pose for pictures, but there isn’t anything they can play with.
Luckily we didn’t arrive too early so we didn’t have to wait very long. I would recommend arriving a little early so you don’t miss the start of the show waiting for your seat to be assigned, but not so early you have to stand around for a long time.
The actual show opens with the narration of the horse, followed by a beautiful stallion running in the arena guided by the master of horse. This first introduction to what was to come had the kids’ attention and they were already at the edge of their seats.
There is an actual storyline, which can be hard to follow if you aren’t paying full attention and I’m not sure how much the kids were actually listening to the narration, but every part of the show was building up to the big finale – everyone’s favorite part of the night!
The jousts and fights begin! Large nets protect the audience from the wooden splinters from the lances and flying weapons because they use actual swords, lances, and armor for protection!

Everyone was really excited about watching the swordplay and jousting. The big kids thought it was super cool, and the little kids were awe-struck at all the action going on. It really was a lot of fun for everyone!
If you are heading to the Orlando area, I highly recommend adding Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament to your list of things to do. It is totally worth having a relaxing, stress-free night!
