High atop one of the most luxurious malls in Atlanta - Phipps Plaza sits LEGOLAND Discovery Center.....OK, really its on the 3rd level, not SO high, but the mall is a destination for many visitors and a great accessible location both via the highway with free parking and via public transportation Atlanta's MARTA.
I picked up Mini Me after school and she was SO excited as we got in the elevator and realized her special after school surprise was a visit to LEGOLAND Discovery Center. When you first enter, you can learn about how LEGO Bricks are made at the LEGO factory tour. Education in plastics and you get a LEGO brick to take home.
The next stop is Kingdom Quest Laser Ride. Its a totally fun dark ride where you shoot both standing targets and ones on a screen. We walked right on actually - after school on a weeknight got to ride again and again and again.
Next was the Miniland and let me tell you I LOVED it. Atlanta's finest landmarks in Legos by day and night. Some buildings were interactive too. SO cool.
After exiting Miniland you enter an area with LOTS of attractions. We checked out the Earthquake Tables and spent a BUNCH of time at the LEGO Racers Build and Test area. You build a racer and they had 3 tracks to use them on, with one being a RACE to check out your creation against other patrons. Mini me LOVED this area and raced again and again and again.
After too many races to count, we checked out LEGO Friends Olivia's House complete with Karaoke! Adorable and a hit since we are big time into LEGO Friends.
Then it was on to the LEGO Fire Academy and LEGO Construction site - complete with wrecking ball. Really Mini Me did NOT want to come out of there - LOVED the Soft Play, climbing and slides really a GREAT play area to wear out any little LEGO Enthusiast.
We enjoyed the 4D Cinema movies too....not going to spoil of the awesome effects, but Clutch Powers and Chima were our favorites. They run continuously and we had 4 to choose from for our viewing pleasure...we watched them all of course!
We saved riding the Merlin's Apprentice Ride for last and enjoyed it a couple times - walk on SUHWEET. As you pedal your car flies up in the air and you get a GREAT view of the mall below. It was so much fun.
We did NOT take advantage of the LEGO Building Academy, because well, we were loving everything else and ran out of time. I told my Mini Me we could stay as long as she wanted and we stayed almost 4 hours!
Of course I bought a little something to remember our trip in the shop on the way out at the shop, they had LOTS of fun items and sets - something at all price points.
My final thoughts:
I cannot believe it took me THIS long to go visit. I had no idea there was so much to do in there and we had a blast. We will be sure to go back soon. They truly have something for everyone: all ages....even the smallest ones. I loved how my daughter got to use her imagination building, was active in the play area, enjoyed some rides, sang a song, got to see what others had made in Miniland and got to chill in the cinema. The employees were SO nice too which always helpful and the place was clean as a whistle, though to be honest, some of the chairs in the Cinema could use a little TLC or redo - my ONLY suggestion, redo some of the seats in the theater.
